Out goes one Spanish star and in comes another. That is what Arsenal could possibly be planning for now. Fabrgeas is virtually out of the Arsenal door in my opinion as I can not see us hanging onto him for next season, and I am sure Arsene Wenger also sees that as it is now reported that he is after Valencia’s Juan Mata.
Mata may not be a direct replacement to Fabregas but Wenger may actually be thinking of changing the way Arsenal play next season. Mata normally plays out on the wings but he is equally capable of playing just behind the striker which is where Arsenal could use him as we have enough options out wide. With Van Persie upfront and Mata just behind him, we could have a lethal attack come next season. Then if we do have Gervinho, he could play upfront alongside Van Persie in a more traditional 4-4-2 and Mata will be deployed out wide.
Liverpool have been the team constantly linked with a move for Mata but they are delaying making an offer for him and Arsenal may now just come in and steel him from under their noses. Valencia are in serious financial trouble and need to sell their star players inorder to make some money. They already got rid of David Villa and Silva, now Mata is their remaining asset of great value. A fee of £18million is being banded around for Mata. Whether Wenger is willing to break the bank and spend this much money remains to be see.
Do you think Mata would be a good signing for Arsenal?
