With Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini rumoured to be leaving the Emirates at the end of the season, the Gunners squad will lose three of their most experienced and influential leaders.

Few managers trust youth more than Arsene Wenger, however, there a lot to be said for having an experienced and wise player in the squad, particularly when you are challenging at the top week in, week out.

Here, Jonathan Kaney takes a look at some potential veteran players the Gunners could turn to across Europe who have had stellar careers and still have plenty to offer at the top.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 34

Despite being 34, Zlatan is one of the best players in the world and has picked up silverware in every country he’s played.
The iconic striker has yet to ply his trade in England, but Arsenal would be perfect for him if he did decide he wanted a challenge in England before he retires.

He’s been linked with us for years, and despite age creeping up on him, he is a born winner, champion and goal scorer and he is exactly the kind of striker we are missing at the moment. With the tireless creative players we have to supply him, signing him could be a masterstroke.

Thiago Motta, 33

One of the unheralded stars of PSG’s expensive superstar line-up is veteran Italian Thiago Motta who has been one of the world’s best defensive midfielders for a decade.

The quiet and underappreciated job he does allows PSG’s stars to play with security and freedom is exactly what the Gunners need right now.

Arsene Wenger likes to have experienced players in the dressing room and with his contract up at the end of the season, if Rosicky, Arteta and Flamini are released, the Italian international would be an excellent option to fill the gap these veterans would leave.

Danielle De Rossi, 32

World Cup winner Danielle De Rossi has been at the top of European football for a decade and despite having plenty of offers to leave Roma over the years he has stayed put at his home club.

The steely Italian is one of the most experienced and talented midfield enforcers in football and has been linked with top sides in the Premier League for years. With the midfield crisis at the Emirates, his steel and leadership in the centre of the pitch is exactly what we need to maintain a challenge at the top of the Premier League.

Arsene is reported to have been a fan of him for a long time and although it would be a tough sell to convince him to leave Roma, with him coming to his last years at the top and falling out with Roma fans recently, he could well be persuaded to move to London.

Wesley Sniejder, 31

A few years ago Wesley Sniejder was arguably the best midfielder in the world after leading Inter Milan to the treble under Jose Mourinho.

Although being one of the stars or world football and having a stellar career at Ajax, Real Madrid and Inter, when Jose Mourinho left the San Siro, Sniejder had a dramatic fall from grace that saw him lose form, be frozen out of the first team for club and country and not only be stripped of the Dutch captaincy, but left out of international squads altogether.

It was a horrendous and humbling time for the Dutchman who couldn’t get a top club to take a chance him after his poor form and high wage demands.

He eventually moved to Turkish side Galatasaray in 2013, and has managed to reignite his career and slowly push himself back into the bracket of elite players.

His experience of top level games and his undoubted quality would make him an excellent signing to cover our midfield crisis.

Ezequiel Lavezzi, 30

Another PSG player to consider is Argentinian forward Ezequiel Lavezzi who is the youngest on this list at 30.

The summer arrival of Angel Di Maria has left him surplus to requirements in Paris and with him reportedly available for less than £10m, he is definitely an option for Arsene.

With his versatility in being able to play on both flanks or through the centre, his creativity and his flair he would bring a lot to the team and with many of our forwards still in their early twenties, some experience
