The Bacary Sagna transfer saga does not seem to be coming to an end anytime soon with reports suggesting that he is being offered a new two year deal by Arsenal. The French defender has already turned down a one-year extension to his current deal, which expires in the summer, on his existing £70,000-per-week wage.

But Sagna has admitted that although negotiations are taking place with Arsenal, he may still leave in January.

He said: ‘I’ve still got 6 months on my contract with Arsenal. We are in negotiations.

‘It’s an option to go somewhere in January but I always had a good relationship with Arsenal.

‘I’ve been playing there for seven years and I hope we will end up on something good.

‘First of all I want to finish a champion because we have got a good opportunity to do it this year and after we will see.’

There is no doubt that Sagna is a quality player and we could do with his services for a few more years as our current backup right back Carl Jenkinson is not really good enough yet. With the shortage of quality right backs in the game today, it will be difficult to find a decent replacement for Sagna in the transfer market.

What are your thoughts? Should Arsena do all they can to hold onto Sagna or rather sell him in January so we do not lose him for free in the summer?
