The Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night was Ozil’s worst ever game for Arsenal since he joined the club on transfer deadline day. Ozil has been a hit for the Gunners ever since he joined from Real Madrid but on Tuesday night he look far off the pace and Arsene Wenger has explained why.

“He was sick before the game and he was not at his best on the night,” Wenger said. “He said he felt alright, but in the two days before he had a virus and you could see that physically he was not at his best.

“Dortmund was organised to stop us from playing our game and one of their game plans was to stop Ozil to get in the game. They did that well. On top of that, Ozil was not at his best physically on Tuesday night.”

Now it makes sense why Ozil was poor in that game. There have been suggestions that if you manage to shut down Ozil then Arsenal are in trouble. I beg to differ! We have too many other creative players in the team that we do not just rely on Ozil. Against Dortmun we were just very unlucky that they scored in the last few minutes to get there as we had looked set to get the draw.

Hopefully Ozil is now full recovered and ready for the action this weekend.
