Thomas Vermaelen has hinted that he may leave Arsenal is he is not able to make it back into the starting lineup as he seeks more games so he can establish himself in the Belgium side for the World Cup in 2014.

Vermaelen has lost out to the partnership formed betweenvLaurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker at Arsenal whist Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen are blocking his path for Belgium.

Vermaelen said in the Daily Mail, ‘I’ll have to think about that when it’s necessary. January is still a few months ahead. Of course, never playing will not be the ideal situation for me to go to the World Cup, that’s for sure.

‘People ask me if I panic because I’m not playing a lot but I’m not.

‘I have spoken to the manager but it will remain private between us. Things can happen in a split second and change my situation. That can happen tomorrow or next weekend.

‘In that case, we will speak differently in January. I have to be ready for that.’

One can not blame Vermaelen for wanting to play more as he is still a quality defender. I believe he should be patient and he will get his chance sooner rather than later at Arsenal and once he is back in, be it at the expense of Mertesacker or Koscienly, he will remain in the side and be at his best again.
