Why Arsenal should sign Rooney instead of Suarez or Llorente

Less than three months left until the January transfer window opens and rumours are already beginning to spread regarding the striker Arsenal should buy. Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney are usual players being linked, but other strikers such as Fernando Llorente, Karim Benzema and Konstantinos Mitroglou have also been mentioned recently.

So who should Arsenal buy? Despite the large transfer kitty available for Mr. Wenger to spend, it should only be enough to buy ONE striker. Olivier Giroud is already in fine form this season, so it’s not really necessary to buy more than one striker.

Personally, I think it’s logical and ideal for Arsenal to go all out to buy Wayne Rooney. Luis Suarez would also be a terrific buy but the summer transfer window was Arsenal’s best chance of getting him, and we failed. His incredible partnership with Daniel Sturridge this season would also make Brendan Rodgers reluctant to lose him. Fernando Llorente, on the other hand, plays the same way as Giroud, so it doesn’t really make a difference to the team. He also just moved to Juventus last summer, so I don’t think he’ll just give up on his Juventus career just like that.

Wayne Rooney has already pushed away United’s desperate attempts to extend his contract recently. And with less than 18 months left, Wenger wouldn’t really need to splash out £50million ++ (which is the value Liverpool would be holding out for Suarez). The availability of assist-king Mesut Ozil in Arsenal would tempt Rooney to make the move to the Emirates.

Real Madrid are short of strikers so they probably wouldn’t sell Karim Benzema. The injury to Gareth Bale also doesn’t help the situation. Mitroglou would also be a good buy, but he is not the type of big-name striker Arsenal fans are crying out for. And despite his incredible form for Olympiakos this season, it is not guaranteed that he’ll be prolific in the Premier League.
