Signing this Spanish defender would be a great move by Arsenal

Arsene Weneger made it clear that he does not think Arsenal need to sign a new left-back this summer following Gael Clichy moving to Manchester City. “We have Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore and Thomas Vermaelen who can play at left back so we have what we need,” Wenger said during a press conference on the Far East tour.

This stance taken by Wenger has not gone down well with many fans as the belief is that we can not reply on Kieran Gibbs to be our first choice left-back. He is still very young and has a lot to learn. We need an experienced head in our defence so we can stop shipping in goals. Gibbs will be a great player in two or three season time but we need to groom him nicely alongside an experienced player.

Newcastle’s Spanish left-back Jose Enrique is set to leave the club this summer as he seeks Champions League football. Liverpool are also interested in him but if Arsenal do decide to buy Enrique, which I believe they should, then Enrique would pick Arsenal over Liverpool.

The Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew has said, “The noises coming out of Jose’s camp are that he wants to get a new club [that is] playing Champions League football.

“We cannot offer him that at the moment, so that seems to be his focus. Hopefully that will change.”

Arsenal have to capitalise on this and make a move for Enrique.
