Mesut Ozil. It was a great season for the playmaking wizard and he made his intentions clear with a brilliant ball for Bastian Schweinsteiger to wrap things up against Ukraine. But will he carry this form on throughout the rest of the Euros?
The Schalke academy graduate has been in scintillating form since emerging on the scene in the 2010 World Cup as a Werder Bremen player and has made himself a regular in the Germany team and with prolific goalscorers like Thomas Muller & Mario Gomez lurking around the squad he knows if he can find these players in the right areas there’s a good chance they’ll put the chances away. Ozil will also have a number of big defenders that he can whip balls in for so the opportunity is definitely available for Ozil.
Ozil will probably play in the hole where he has had much joy. If he is put in the free role where he doesn’t have to track back as hard because of the defence cover that the likes of Sami Khedira offer then we can see Mesut doing what he does best, pulling off those Hollywood passes.
After racking up 19 assists in the domestic season, Ozil will be looking to carry this form into the Euros and with the quality of teammate he has around him with the world champions, he will be hoping he can pull the strings for his teammates.
