Arsène Wenger has praised Joel Campbell after the youngster scored a goal on his first Premier League appearance for Arsenal.

Campbell managed to get a start at the weekend with injuries to notable players and impressed with his display against Swansea. He scored to make the final result 3-0, giving the Gunners an away win.

Wenger explained his belief in Campbell and why he was unwilling to sell him in the summer. He told Arsenal Player on www.arsenal.com after the game: “He had to wait, to be patient, to get a chance and he was always on the waiting list,”

“He got through a few countries but he is still very young and I never let him go as I feel he is a good player and on top of that he is a team player.

“Today he scored one but he could have scored more so that is something very interesting. You see when he has good players around him he is a good player.”

Wenger also had praise for the contribution of another young player coming through, Héctor Bellerín, expressing: “He made big tackles. He is getting better defensively. Hector was always known as a offensive player and we becomes now a complete defender and keeps his forward qualities.”

The next game for Arsenal is against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
