The January transfer window is open, which is sure to lead to many rumours concerning Arsenal. Eyes will be cast across Europe, though the Gunners could keep their attention closer to home.
Jonathan Kaney believes so, identifying five established Premier league stars that he believes can aid the Gunners in their title push- with Arsene Wenger searching for the final few additions that will make his squad the complete package.
Signing a player from a rival Premier League side is an expensive prospect but it comes with less risk, as they already have experience of playing in the league and will take less time to settle. There’s no guarantees with any transfers but in mid-season, domestic is the way to go.
Any of these five signings would be ideal for Arsenal in January and there’s no doubt they would make the squad stronger.

Jamie Vardy
There’s been a lot of talk that Vardy will move in January, but it’s unlikely. His form and goals are slowly calming down and his scoring form will be extremely hard to carry on all season.
In saying that, there’s no doubt he’s shown something this season and his prolific goal scoring form and fairytale story of playing non-league football to being Premier League top scorer with 12 goals in 12 games saw seen him linked with the Premier League’s top clubs and even Real Madrid.
His raw pace, finishing ability and direct fearlessness in attacking defences has seen him become on of the most praised players in England this season, and he could do well at Arsenal as an option in the squad.
Riyad Mahrez
With his outstanding form this season and ability to excite fans, there’s no denying he would be a superb addition to the squad.
The 24-year-old Algerian, has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season, contributing eleven goals and seven assists this season to help Leicester shock the footballing world to keep Leicester challenging us and City for the top spot.
Despite his slight frame, he is a tricky winger and has blown Premier League defences away this season, never failing to get fans out of their seats.
The prospect of him lining up alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez would make the Gunners an even more fearsome attacking outfit for opponents to deal with.
Romelu Lukaku
I would love to see Lukaku at the Emirates. He would cost around £50m to sign, but at just 22 years old, he is already a prolific and highly experienced Premier League striker and is destined to be this generation’s Drogba.
His time at Everton has moulded him in to a far better striker than he was at Chelsea and with 11 goals already this season he is terrifying Premier League defences. He’s also a far more complete player than Giroud or Walcott is, offering skill as well as physicality and power.
Lukaku has a drive and ambition to be the best in the world and a move to the Gunners to learn under Arsene Wenger could well turn him from a fantastic striker into a legendary one.
John Stones
21-year-old John Stones is arguably the most talented defensive prospect in England right now and is widely hailed as the future of England’s defence.
The summer was dominated by Chelsea’s much-publicised chase of him and it was ultimately an embarrassment for them as Everton knocked back three bids of up to £35m. Stones wanted to leave, but with Chelsea’s nightmare form this season it’s worked out just as well.
They are unlikely to come back in for him after being made a fool of by the Everton board once before which leaves the door open for us. He may stay at the Toffees for a couple more seasons, but they won’t be able to hold on to him forever. He would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal in the future.
Ross Barkley
I’m pillaging Everton in this piece, but I’m a huge fan Ross Barkley and I would love to see him at the Emirates.
He will end up at a top-four club sooner or later and his talent and industrious performances would fit in well at the Emirates.
He’s powerful and dynamic in the centre and is far more attacking than Coquelin, with has a talent for splitting defences open with his vision or scoring a long range screamer.
Interestingly, he looked to link up extremely well with Theo Walcott in England’s victory 2-0 victory over Estonia in Euro 2016 qualifying and with our central midfield options limited at the moment, he could well end up at the Gunners in the summer.
