5 right-wingers Arsenal should attempt to sign

|

Arsenal possess a squad that is extremely talented and boasts well-known names from across world football. However, like any squad, improvements can still be made.

Quite possibly the weakest area of Arsenal’s squad is the right-side of midfield, which is regularly utilised to fit in top-players that aren’t capable of securing their favoured spot in the team.

Theo Walcott was a regular starter in this area, before getting his chance up-front, and now Aaron Ramsey finds himself in a similar position as Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil keep him out of a central-role in midfield.

Injuries to Cazorla and Coquelin mean Ramsey may now get his chance but that decreases the competitiveness on the right-flank, with the only senior member of our squad that is adorns the right-wing as his preferred position is Joel Campbell.

Whilst many consider Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to fit that role, he too prefers a central midfield role and that’s led Jonathan Kaney to state that the Gunners desperately need a natural right-sided player to add to the squad in the New Year.

Riyad Mahrez

Gooners were thrilled to hear that Leicester star Riyad Mahrez is reportedly being considered by Arsene Wenger to boost our attacking options on the right. With his outstanding form this season and ability to excite fans, there’s no denying he would be a superb addition to the squad.

The 24-year-old Algerian, has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season, contributing seven goals and six assists in 12 games to help Leicester shock the footballing world to sit second in the Premier League heading into December.

Despite his slight frame, he is a tricky winger and has blown Premier League defences away this season, never failing to get fans out of their seats.

The prospect of him lining up alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez would make the Gunners an even more fearsome attacking outfit for opponents to deal with.

Isco

Not an out and out right winger, but he has played there often for both Malaga and Madrid. The creative magician is one of the most gifted players in La Liga and has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal over the past few months.

Despite being a fan favourite and putting in some dynamic performances in time at the Bernabeu, he seems to have fallen out with Rafa Benitez and and cuts a frustrated figure in Madrid.

With reports that he has handed in a transfer request, Arsene Wenger could well make a move for him in January to bolster our already outstanding attacking options and provide healthy competition.

Hakan Calhanoglu

Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu has been dubbed the ‘New Mesut Ozil’ and is another midfielder that Arsene Wenger is reported to be extremely keen on.

The 21-year-old Turkish international can play on the right or the centre and is a talent who would do well at the Gunners.

He’s a dead ball specialist who over the past few seasons has developed into one of the most consistently outstanding attacking midfield players in the Bundesliga.

A January move to Arsenal could be on the cards for the young Turkish star as Arsene Wenger looks to snap him up before another elite club does.

Leroy Sane

19-year-old German Leroy Sane is one of the brightest talents in world football and is another player who is the centre of a transfer battle between the elite clubs in Europe.

He’s tall for a winger, yet uses his height and pace to his advantage to be a direct presence going forward and a huge goal threat.

He’s another young player who is developing into an outstanding attacking midfielder and, after impressing on the world stage with his assured performances for Schalke, is definitely another one who Gunners fans would like to see arrive at the Emirates.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

Versatile 30-year-old Argentinian Ezequiel Lavezzi is another winger that Arsene Wenger may turn to in the short-term as he has the ability to play on both flanks and through the centre.

With the summer arrival of Angel Di Maria leaving him surplus to requirements in Paris he has been linked with just about every top club in Europe.

Arsene Wenger may see him as the ideal cover in his squad with a long season ahead, as the experienced Argentine would be a stellar addition.
