3 transfers Arsenal need to make in January

Arsenal’s current injury crisis has led to a desperate need for reinforcements in January if the Gunners are to maintain their challenge for the Premier League title.

With Santi Cazorla the latest long-term injury layoff, joining Francis Coquelin on the sidelines for the next three months, there is an argument to suggest that Arsenal may end up having to battling ferociously just to seal their spot in the Champions League.

Fortunately for Arsenal fans, the Gunners possess the financial strength to bolster their ranks in January and bring in the fresh faces that are needed. It won’t necessarily be an easy task, as Jonathan Kaney believes Arsene Wenger needs three fresh faces within the squad.

In his eyes, these three additions would quell the fears raised by the injury problems at the Emirates and could be decisive to any success that Arsenal may enjoy this season.

Nolito

Striking reinforcements are an absolutely priority for the Gunners this January window and Celta Vigo talisman Nolito looks the most likely to arrive.

He’s been at centre of a transfer saga between us and Barcelona for months, and after seemingly ruling out leaving Celta, he now seems to be open to a move to London again.
The Spaniard has been superb in La Liga for a long time and his sheer class, tenacity, close control and ability to cut in from the flank, makes him an ideal signing to fill what we are missing in the squad at the moment.

Add all that to the fact that he is available for a very reasonable £13m, then targeting the talented forward would a wise move for the Gunners.

Lars Bender

Of all the positions we need to strengthen, defensive midfield is the most important. Even before Coquelin’s injury we were extremely light in the middle of the park and Leverkusen star Lars Bender would be an excellent addition to solve this problem.

The 26-year-old German international is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga and has similar qualities to Mikel Arteta, with a bit more steel in the tackle that the Spaniard lacks.

He would cost somewhere between £15-£20m, but at just 26 and entering his peak years, the fee would be more than worth it to bring quality into a position we severely need to strengthen.

William Carvalho

I would go out and sign two central midfielders this season and alongside Lars Bender I would bring in highly-rated 23-year-old defensive midfielder William Carvaloho from Sporting.

The combative Portuguese international looked destined to arrive at the Emirates in the summer until a bad injury ruled him out as one of our targets. However, after months of injury recovery and speculation that he would sign a new deal at Sporting, he now looks to be on the move again after talks broke down.

Carvalho has everything in his locker to be superb Premier League midfielder and has the added bonus of being combative in a similar mould to Coquelin. It would give us another option, not only to play alongside the French enforcer, but as cover if he gets injured.
