We couldn’t quite believe what we were reading this morning that Barcelona ace Lionel Messi wants to join Arsenal, leaving Catalonia for the Premier League.
The reports come via The Daily Star, who state that the tax-scandal that’s plagued Messi in the past year has taken it’s toll on the four-time Ballon D’Or winner and he wants to move to the Premier League; with Arsenal his preferred destination.
A sensational deal would be extremely difficult to pull-off though as Messi has a staggeringly high release clause, whilst it’s reported Messi would cost Arsenal £600k-a-week; which amounts to a mouthwatering £18m a year.
With Arsenal’s current highest earners on less than £200k-a-week, Messi’s arrival would shatter the Gunners raise structure and would arguably cause more problems that it’s worth.
Still, it would be a dream come true to see Messi playing in Arsenal’s famous red and white jersey- and there’s every chance he could fire us to the continental glory we crave.
