4 Premier League players Arsenal should target

|

Arsenal are being heavily linked to a wealth of players from across Europe but the Premier League also has plenty to offer.

With the Gunners seemingly set for January additions to strengthen their push for the league title, players with experience at the highest level of English football could come in extremely handy for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Whilst the players come at a premium, usually more expensive than their European counterparts, the price paid could prove to be a bargain come May- if the incoming player helps Arsenal end a long wait for an elusive Premier League title.

We asked Jonathan Kaney to identify four Premier League players he believes Arsenal should try to capture in January- and the results may surprise some of you. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Romelu Lukaku

Some Gooners may disagree with me on this one, but I’m going for it. Lukaku would cost around £50m to sign, but at just 23 years old, he is already a prolific and highly experienced Premier League striker and is destined to be this generation’s Drogba.

His time at Everton has moulded him in to a far better striker than he was at Chelsea and with 9 goals already this season he is terrifying Premier League defences. He’s also a far more complete player than Giroud is, offering skill as well as physicality and power.

Lukaku has a drive and ambition to be the best in the world and a move to the Gunners to learn under Arsene Wenger could well bring the best out of him. He may be a Chelsea reject – but Peter Cech hasn’t turned out to be that bad has he?

Yohan Cabaye

If the rumours are true that Arsene is considering allowing Tomas Rosicky, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta to leave the Emirates in the summer, the club will be on the lookout for a good few central midfield enforcements.

Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye fits the bill. He’s a proven Premier League performer and has long made it clear he wants a move to Arsenal, after being denied a move in 2011.

He ended up at PSG instead of us after leaving Newcastle, but a lack of first team football saw him surprisingly reunite with Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace. He’s been in fine form for the Eagles as they exceed all expectations, but he is far too good for them.

He may struggle to displace Coquelin and Cazorla from the first team, but he is worth making a move for to strengthen our squad. He is a classy and reliable performer and would have no trouble adapting to our football.

Andre Ayew

Ayew is another player that I think that would do well at the Emirates. He has something about him and seems to have an uncanny ability to create problems for whoever he is playing against.

He’s been linked with Liverpool after his fine form for Swansea, but he could be well end up at Arsenal in the summer.
Gunners legend Ian Wright called him the “complete Premier League player” and has praised him for his all-action combative play in both halves and his goal threat from midfield.
He done superbly for Swansea since he arrived from Marseille and if he keeps it up, it will only be a matter of time before he ends up at one of the top six clubs in the league.

Dimtri Payet

Payet has been a revelation since moving to West Ham from Marseille for £10.5m and has been hugely important in their rise to the upper echelons of the Premier League table.

His assist record and chances created stats could give Ozil a run for his money and he’s also not shy of scoring a goal either.

His vision and passing game is perfect for our style of play and he would add another hugely creative body to our already outstanding midfield. We’ve no hope of getting him in January, but if he continues in this form, he would be a very worthwhile signing in the summer.
