5 realistic January striker signings for Arsenal

|

Since what feels like time began, Arsenal have been linked with a wealth of strikers in the transfer windows- without making much waves.

Summer saw fans across the globe cry-out for a world-class forward to arrive at the Emirates but nothing happened, leaving many disappointed.

Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have impressed so far this season but may expect Arsenal to add to their forward options in the New Year- but it’s unlikely to be a record-breaking addition to strike fear across Europe.

Instead, Arsenal will likely purchase an option that will compete with Giroud and Walcott. Here Jonathan Kaney has suggested five-such targets, who would be realistic options for Arsenal to pursue in January.

Alexsandr Kokorin

Aleksandr Kokorin

Reports are continuing to link the 6ft Dynamo Moscow striker with a move to the Emirates, and with his contract running down, a bid of £7m should be enough to bring him to the club in January.

A relatively unknown prospect to most Gunners fans, Kokorin is the most likely addition to the squad in January after we tracked over the summer and reportedly failed in a loan attempt.

He’s never managed more than ten goals a season in Russia, but as a big powerful number 9 in the mould of Giroud, he could well be a good bit of business for us as a backup player who wouldn’t demand first team football straight away.

Nolito

Nolito

Celta Vigo talisman Nolito has recently put a dampener on any transfer speculation about his future telling Spanish radio station Radio Marca: “God will decide my future. I’m not leaving in January. I’m happy in Vigo.”

However, as we all know things can change very quickly in football. Wenger seems keen on him, and with him available for between £10m and £15m, if the Frenchman was to make a bid, it would be tough for Celta Vigo not to sell the forward with cash tight at the La Liga club.

Stephan El Shaarawy

Stephan El Shaarawy

The flamboyant Italian was touted as one of most promising strikers in Europe a couple of years ago and valued at over £40m before a bad injury saw him lose form and fitness.

He’s been heavily linked with the Gunners in the past and with the Frenchman just 22 years old and reigniting his career on loan at Monaco, there is a good chance Arsene could make a cut-price offer for him in January.

Michy Batshuayi

Marseille

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Belgian hitman who has been the one bright spark in a disappointing start to the season for the French giants.

Batshuayi’s talent is still raw, however with an impressive goal scoring record of 16 goals in 38 games for Marseille and his excellent finishing, height, power, strength and wicked pace, he would be a great signing for the club. With Marseille’s poor league form, they may well be tempted to cash in on him in January.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

30-year-old Argentinian Ezequiel Lavezzi is also a realistic option for the Gunners this January with his contract running down and the summer arrival of Angel Di Maria leaving him surplus to requirements in Paris.

He’s been linked with just about every top club in Europe and with being available for a cut price of around £5m-£7m, Arsene Wenger may see the versatile attacker as the ideal cover n his squad with a long season ahead.
