Arsenal have reportedly acquired up-and-coming forward Jackson Martinez from Porto.

Arsene Wenger’s move to sign Martinez has befuddled Manchester United, as the Red Devils were closing in on signing the forward.

According to the Telegraph, the Gunners have paid Porto £24.8m to meet his release clause, giving them the right to sign the player.

Martinez has been highly impressive with the Portuguese squad, netting 32 goals this season.

Arsenal have struggled at times this season to score when they need it and this signing will give them some depth  at the front line.

Martinez will undoubtedly provide motivation to Oliver Giroud, who has been essentially the only reliable option  this year.

Being relied upon game after game has worn Giroud down and his form dipped to end the season as a result.

However, competing in the Premier League is far different than playing in the Primeira Liga.

If Martinez can develop under Wenger’s watch, Arsenal could have a very solid attacker on their hands.

Martinez is young and needs development, but he possesses boundless potential.
