Gabriel Paulista is a Brazilian defender that moved to Arsenal during the 2015 January transfer window for a fee rumored to be around £11.3 million. His defensive performances for Villarreal caught the attention of Arsene Wenger and earned him a move to London. While featuring in 19 games for Villarreal, the Spanish side only conceded 17 goals which averaged to less than one goal a game.
Since his move to London, Gabriel has impressed with his performances and the Gunners won the first five games that he featured in. He is most remembered for his perfect slide tackle against Everton striker Romeu Lukaku who was through on goal during his first home debut.
Gabriel has recently exclaimed his happiness with his move to the Premier League. He claims that the strength of the Barclays Premier League is “one of the reasons why I wanted to play here.”
It seems that Arsene Wenger made a shrewd signing with the Brazilian defender. Arsenal has seemingly found themselves a reliable and versatile player who can operate as a centre back or defensive midfielder. Paulista might not be a household name but he will get the job done when needed.
