Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he was close to signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona.
Le Prof was in jovial humour on the eve of hosting Manchester United at The Emirates Stadium, and revealed that he wanted the majestic Argentine and Gerard Pique included in the deal that saw Cesc Fabregas move to North London back in 2003.
The Gooner is somewhat relieved that it did not happen because:
A) We would have sold him to Chelsea or Manchester City in around 2006
B) Wenger would’ve wasted his talents by playing him left-back.
