Reports from various sources have suggested that Porto’s Colombian prodigy Juan Fernando Quintero is nearing a switch to Arsenal for a fee reported to be in the region of £16 million.

Twitter exploded last night with rumours emanating from a number of Colombian journalists that Quintero was flying out to London to complete his move to the Emirates.

Maria Elena Chavarro – apparently Quintero’s agent – tweeted last night “Today @juanferquinte10 travelled to England to sign a contract with Arsenal who are paying 20m Euros to FCPorto, congratulations!”

However, the Telegraph are reporting that Quintero is in talks, but his agent, Ricardo Calleri, has insisted Arsenal must meet his £31 million buyout clause.

All-in-all, the whole saga appears to be pretty convoluted. People are saying things to generate followers or clicks for their respective website. With so many different stories flying about, nobody can be completely sure of how much truth the story holds.

One thing is for certain however is that having rejected the chance to re-sign Cesc Fabregas, the chances of Arsene Wenger taking on another attacking midfielder seems unlikely.

And what’s more, with the first reports of Arsenal’s supposed interest in Quintero being from the Metro – the harbingers of true transfer bullshittery – the chances are that there is very little mileage left in this bogus rumour.
