Arsenal managed to keep their sixth clean sheet out of their last seven games as they beat Cardiff 3-0 on Saturday. Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that the secret behind Arsenal’s great defence does not lie in him but rather the solid partnership of Mertesacker and Koscielny.

“If one of [Laurent or Per] is not nominated for Player of the Month I will be amazed,” Szczesny told Arsenal.com.

“We have conceded one goal in November. We have been great and playing behind [all four of] them is a pleasure for me.

“I have been working hard myself but the defence have helped me massively. It is smashing to play behind the same back four every week. You don’t know how important that is.

“Yes I am keeping clean sheets but I have not had many saves to make.”

Szczesny has had a very good season so far for Arsenal and even if there is talk that Arsene Wenger may be interested in signing Julio Cesar from QPR, Szczesny will not give up his number one jersey easily.

When it comes to the partnership of Laurent and Per, there is no doubt they are currently the best pairing in the league right now and to think that we have Vermaelen on the bench gives us added confidence. The key will be for Wenger to hang onto Vermaelen during the January transfer cover as we need his experience and qualities if Per or Laurent get injured.
