5 Players Arsenal must sign in January to win the Premier League

|

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Arsenal find themselves sitting top of the Premier League and for the Gunners to maintain this and go on to win the title, Arsene Wenger is going to need to carry out some shopping to strengthen the squad.

It is clear that Arsenal need to bring in another striker or two to help take the load off Olivier Giroud. Signing a new striker should be the number one priority in January but there are some areas in the squad that need added strengthening for immediate use and looking forward to the future of the club:

1) Julio Cesar

Julio Cesar to Arsenal

Arsenal currently have a good goalkeeper in Wojciech Szczesny but QPR are said to be willing to let Brazilian international Julio Cesar leave the club on a free transfer this January.

The Gunners had tried to sign Cesar in the summer but that did not work out so maybe Wenger should try sign him again. Cesar would provide much needed competition and cover for Wojciech Szczesny as Fabianski does not convince many Arsenal fans.

2) Martin Montoya

With this looking more likely to be Sagna’s last season at Arsenal as his contract ends this summer, Arsenal need a new right back and Barcelona’s 22-year old Martin Montoya would be the perfect candidate. Montoya is said to be unhappy with the lack of football he is getting at Barcelona and his contract also runs out in the summer so Wenger could try sign him for a minimal fee this January and Montoya can come in straight away and challenge Sagna for the rest of the season, or we wait until the summer and get him for free.

Liverpool are also said to be interested in Montoya but the lure of Champions League football should win him over to join Arsenal.

3) Yohan Cabaye

Arsenal tried to sign Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the summer but that deal did not go through. Wenger ended up signing Mesut Ozil but there is still room for a player of Cabaye’s quality in the Arsenal side.

The midfielder would be a perfect fit to anchor the middle of the park where Arteta is currently playing and that would give Arteta more freedom to move forward and attack more. A central midfield pairing of Cabaye and Wilshere could be one of the best in the Premier League for many seasons to come.

It is said that Cabaye wants to play in the Champions League and it is very unlikely he will get to do that at Newcastle so joining Arsenal would make sense for him.

4) Karim Benzema

Benzema to Arsenal

With the urgent need for a new striker, Karim Benzema would fit the bill perfectly at Arsenal. It will be tough to prize the French striker from Real Madrid but if the Spanish side are able to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool then he could be surplus to requirements and then a move to Arsenal would be possible.

5) Christain Benteke

Benteke to Arsenal

It would be great for Arsenal to be able to sign two quality strikers in January which would would make us a much stronger squad. With the way Olivier Giroud is playing, it would be ideal to bring in a player similar to Giroud but just as effective and Aston Villa’s Benteke would be the perfect fit.

The Belgian striker is strong and has an eye for goal. Arsenal would not need to change the way we currently play in order to accommodate Benteke as he would be a like-for-like swap with Giroud when called upon.
