It is always refreshing to hear a quality player saying he would like to play for Arsenal. Today it is Brazilian playmaker Diego who has said he would enjoy playing for Arsenal.

Diego told The Sun: ‘It would be the ideal destination for me because their style suits my characteristics perfectly. Of course I would say “yes” to Arsenal.

‘Southampton have great organisation and discipline and big talents like Adam Lallana. But again there is nothing concrete.

‘Playing in England is a very attractive proposition at the peak of my career but I’m focusing on helping Wolfsburg to get in the Champions League.’

Diego is 28-years old and at the peak of his career right now. Such quality midfielders are rare to find and although we already have a lot of talent in midfield at Arsenal, Diego would certainly not be a bad addition. Diego would be able to link up with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal as the two had an amazing partnership in Germany whilst playing for Werder Bremen.

There is no doubt that Arsenal’s main focus in the transfer market should be a new striker as Olivier Giroud needs some support. Getting in a quality striker may only happen in the summer as all the best strikers right are not likely to move with a World Cup coming up. Maybe Arsene Wenger could be looking at doing what Barcelona does at times and not play with an out and out striker and rather fill the side with creative attacking midfielders. We certainly have the personnel to be able to play that way and adding in a player like Diego to that mix would certainly help.

As you can see from the video above, Diego is a quality player and as he stated he would fit in brilliantly with the current style of play at the club. What makes this potential deal even more attractive is that Diego’s current contract runs out at the end of the season so he would be available on a free transfer in the summer or for a nominal fee if Wenger wishes to sign him in January.
