Arsenal need a striker in January. That is a FACT as Rafa Benitez would say!
Almost every decent striker across Europe is being linked with a move to the Gunners but knowing Arsene Wenger, he is not just going to splash the cash for the sake of it. He will make sure he gets the right payer and at the right fee. One thing we know about Arsene is that he makes sure he knows the player he wants to sign well and the Arsenal managed has revealed that he has been keeping an eye on La Liga’s hottest property, Diego Costa.
The Atletico Madrid striker has already scored 12 goals in 11 appearances this season in La Liga and it is being suggested that Arsenal could make a bid for him him. Liverpool tried to sign him in the summer but failed. A move to Arsenal would make much more sense for the 25-year old striker who has recently been called up to the Spanish national side; he stands to win more at Arsenal than at Liverpool.
Arsene Wenger has spoken out about his admiration for Costa in the Daily Star. Wenger said:
“He had already grabbed my attention last year through his determination, his strength to move forward.
“He also possesses technical quality and a cool head when carrying out his finishing touches.
“For a long time, he was loaned out because he couldn’t find his place. But over the last two seasons he has really moved up a notch.
“The departure of [Radamel] Falcao has given him space. The team plays for him and we can see all the talent he possesses.
“There is something animal in his determination, in his hunger. You can feel that he is a player who, before arriving at a very high level, has fed his thirst and his hunger.”
It is thought that Costa would cost in the region of £30million which would be a snip in my opinion. A player of his quality should probably cost about £40million.
I was glad when Arsenal missed out of signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool in the summer. As good a player as Suarez is, he comes with too much baggage and we do not need headline makers like that at Arsenal. Having seen the success of Giroud this season, it is clear to see that we need a big physical striker in our side and Costa fits the bill well.
It may not be possible to prize Costa away from Atletico this season as they are going well in La Liga and the striker would not want to jeopardise his chances of leading Spain in the World Cup by moving to a new league and team. So I would expect Arsenal to make a bid in the summer for Costa and hopefully he decides to join us at the Emirates.
