The January transfer window is just around the corner and Arsenal have been heavily linked with strikers from all across Europe to join during the window to offer support for Giroud. But there have been very few rumours linking players to leave Arsenal until today with the Daily Mail reporting that high spending Monaco are considering a £34million bid for Theo Walcott.

Now this is an interesting one if you look at it closely. We all know that Monaco have a lot of money to spend so for them, shelling out £34million for Walcott would not be a problem. The question then becomes, do Arsenal want to sell Theo?

Walcott is currently out injured with an abdominal strain but is close to a return. But when Walcott is fit again, he will find it difficult to return straight into the starting lineup. Arsenal have been playing very well in the absence of Walcott, we are top of the league after all. Competition will be tough in the Arsenal midfield with the likes of Ozil, Ramsey, Flamini, Wilshere, Cazorla, Rosicky and Arteta all fighting for places. This added competition could mean that Arsenal may actually be willing to sell the England International.

Let’s not forget that not too long ago, Walcott was refusing to sign a new Arsenal contract and eventually signed one 12 months ago but not a 5 year contract as the club wanted. This contract spat will leave a bitter taste in the Arsenal hierarchy and they may look at that during the deliberation on selling him.

Arsenal spent £40million on Ozil which was a lot of money. The club may be looking to balance the books again by selling a player and at £34million, Walcott could be the asset they look to offload so the club still remains in a healthy financial position. As mentioned earlier, Arsenal need a quality striker to come in and I can not see Wenger splashing out another £40million on a striker without getting some money into the bank. So selling Walcott could provide the funds needed to bring in a new world class forward,

So selling Walcott to Monaco may not be so far fetched as some Arsenal fans may think. Theo is a good player but if we do get an other of such high proportions, I think we should sell.

Should Arsenal sell Walcott to Monaco for £34m if they bid?

Theo is one of the few players who currently have an automatic start for their position if fit. Yes we are playing well but we will be better when he comes back.
