It was down to the wire last night (Wednesday) as the transfer window as about to close and then Arsenal announced that we have signed Mikel Arteta from Everton for thought to be £10million. This had to be the biggest signing on transfer deadline day and the biggest signing for Arsenal this summer.
We lost Fabregas and Nasri this summer but we have now bought in a player of the quality of Arteta. If Arteta was not in the generation of Xavi, Iniesta and Alonso, he would easily be a regular in the Spanigh national team. The beauty with signing Arteta is that we are getting a player with Premier league experience already so we do not have to wait for him to ‘get used to the English game’.
At 29-years-old he is also experienced and will certainly help the younger players around him at Arsenal. He is a top-class playmaker who can play well with both feet and is also a dead ball specialist. and with him linking up with Wilshere in the middle of the park, it is going to be something special.
Wilshere himself is please with the arrival of Arteta as he tweeted:
“Best news of the day! Brilliant signing! Welcome to Arteta! Great day all round for #AFC this is why #ILoveAFC. Come on you gooners!!!!”
Now Arteta may not be better than Fabregas but he is certainly a worthwhile replacement who will be able to get the job done for us. My only concern with Arteta is his injury record. He seems to get injured a lot but hopefully he can put all of that behind him and do a good job for Arsenal.
really? hes no where near as good as fabregas your dreaming if you think otherwise. more money lining the boards pocket and they even made arteta take a pay cut! his head goes down in games far too easy he isnt a battler and is injury prone just what we need!

Im sorry but his head goes down……dude he’s playing for everton before course his fliping head went down…….now he’s moved to a club where he can enjoy his style of play….he was unhappy…just like fabregas himself was…..he doesnt need to be better the fabregas to get a good job done fabregas wanted to leave which had a bad effect of the team doing more harm then anything now everbody on that pitch WANTS to be there you’ll be suprised what this fact alone can do for a team,you call yourself an arsenal fan yet all ur type do is moan @tom….i mean its even stated in here he may not be fab standerd but u feel the need to state and moan. Hopefully wenger will bring the best out of him, I think we’ll see a different areteta this season. I’ve always wanted him to come to us! Finally looks like we have a team that will be untied and not a team based around a couple of players!

Your comments could equally apply to Fabregas in his final season at Arsenal. Injury prone and mind elsewhere.
Awesome we now have decent cover in the attacking midfield position!! Between the perma-crocked trio of Arteta, Benayoun and Rosicky I’m sure we well get one regular 😉
pleased with the signings but we need more quality in the jaunary transfer window to compete both in europe and EPL. remember even clubs like Barcelona that are stong already still add quality to their squard.
i agree with bgunnah, just look at a how well ashley young has done since hes joined manu he was good at villa but looks the real deal now he has the likes of rooney and co around him. just think arteta has rvp, jack, theo, gervinho to work with now he will be awsome the only players in the premier league that had a better chances created statistic last year was nani lampard malouda and cesc himself. he will be vital this season trust me.

Cesc is the best midfielder that has ever ever ever been in the PL. And there will be a long time before we see one that is that good again.
Arteta is good PL standard for a creative midfielder. And we shold be happy about that.
Besides we now got a team that is solid, sprinkled with artists. that is what we needed.
dont get me wrong if he can stay fit and get back to the quality he was a couple of years ago he will be a great signing but thats a big but. sorry that i expect so much from arsenal? i dont want arsenal to spend money like manchester city just spend the money that we have on quality signings!
