It is being reported that Per Mertesacker has passed his medical at Arsenal and agreed personal terms. The giant German defender is now set to complete his £10million move from Werder Bremen to Arsenal on a three year contract.
This is going to be a great deal for Arsenal as now we will have two world class centre-backs in the form of Mertesacker and Vermaelen. This is a centre-back pairing that is capable of rivaling any other pair in the Premier League, if not in Europe.
We have had some serious problems with our defence, not only this season but even last season and I am glad to see that Wenger has decided to strengthen us in this department. With the potential arrival to of Brazilian left-back Andre Santos in a £6million move from Fenerbahce we could have a back four of Sagna, Vermaelen, Mertesacker and Santos for the visit of Swansea in our next Premier League game.
