Thursday Rumour: Arsenal set to bid £10million for Spanish play-maker

The speculation linking Arsenal with moves for new midfielders is going to intensify this week as we edge closer to the close of the transfer window. The latest player to be linked with a move to Arsenal is Everton’s Spanish play-maker Mikel Arteta for £10million according to the Daily Star.

If Arteta were playing in any other generation, he would be a regular in the Spanish national team setup but right now with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Alonso playing for Spain, there is no room for someone else. Arteta has been consistantly good for Everton over the years when he is fit but his injury problems have dampened his career.

The beauty with Arteta is that he has Premier League experience and thus he would not need time settle in if he is signed by Arsenal. It is thought that Arteta himself would actually prefer a move to Arsenal if he does leave Everton this summer.

Everton have said that they will not be selling any of their star players this summer as they also do not want to sell us Phil Jagielka. But the fact that they are in a financial crisis they may have to sell one or two stars to balance the books.

Do you think Arteta would be a good signing for Arsenal?
