Wednesday Rumour: Arsenal are in talks to sign Argentine striker

talkSPORT is reporting today that Arsenal are holding talks with Lazio’s Argentine striker Mauro Zarate, according to the player’s agent and brother.

It is thought that the 24-year-old would be available for a fee of around £10m and Atletico Madrid and Spartak Moscow have also expressed an interest in the Argentinean as he has fallen down the pecking order at Lazio following the arrivals of Djibril Cisse and Miroslav Klose this summer to Lazio.

Zarate is no stranger to the English game as he spent 2008 on loan at Birmingham. He was not able to make his move permanent there as Birminghma got relegated. But I ask myself that question: is this the kind of players Arsenal should be signing?

Zarate is a decent striker but nothing amazing as you can see from the video below. We have bought in too many average players in the past and it has not worked out for us. What would the difference be with Bendtner and Zarate? Not much if you ask me. What are your thoughts on Zarate?
