Winterburn: Arsenal can still win title without Fabregas and Nasri

|

Nigel Winterburn believes that Arsenal can still challenge for honours this season even if Fabregas and Nasri leave. The former Arsenal defender insists that if the club are able to bring in decent replacement players for the two then we will be okay.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Winterburn said, “If you lose Fabregas and then you lose Nasri, you are really weakening your team. But you have to be positive and, as long as you can bring two players in who can complement the team, then hopefully Arsenal should be in a position where they can challenge into the top four.

“I always say if you get in the top four to challenge then there becomes a point in the season where you can challenge for the title. That’s what Arsenal have to do – make sure they are in that top four and then they are in with a chance.”

Do you agree with Winterburn? If so, which two players should Wenger bring in to replace Fabregas and Nasri?

I think cesc will goband wenger will land 2 of nasris best friends in football. benzema and taarabt. this will leave samir with a tough decision to make if he still decodes to go we will bring in mata or hazard. we will then sell eboue bendtner squillaci and almunia bringing in campbell dann and mertesacker

  • Apshir says:

I think one playmaker like eden hazard and cd experienced Epl like Gary Cahil will be two good replacement then we can to win sth.

  • Champion says:

This bloke is proper Arsenal. Some a few of the whiny fans could take a leaf out of his book.

  • Roy Nazrat says:

First thing first, I like the spirit and the attitude that Nigel Winterburn has expressed in his opinion. In the current anti-Arsenal/anti-Wenger environment, we badly need such a spirit.
Having said that, we have to bear in mind that last year both Nasri and Cesc were onboard, and yet we didn’t win anything. Consequently, every Gooner was asking Wenger to add reinforcement during the summer and here we are, set to lose two of our best midfielders as well as Clichy and few others.
It is all too plain and simple to see what their departure might cause to us: it might leave us badly weakened in attack and penetration in opponents’ half. It also has the potential to leave some young members of our current squad a little demoralized, not just a few fans. However, in my humble opinion, their departure may very well do the opposite by providing impetus to some of our young and talented players to prove their worth. You never know what these transfer might unearth, especially given the pace of Theo, Miayachi, AOC, RVP, Wilshere, Gervinho…we might witness a much faster and committed Arsenal squad than the one we currently have. I hope I am right.
But having seen Mata and Hazard on Youtube, I honestly feel we could be more than handful for ANY opponent, not excluding Barca, with their additions.
Now that the first EPL game is almost upon us, let’s stop bickering among ourselves and start supporting the club we all love.
