This season is about to start and already Arsenal have injury problems! Robin Van Persie has picked up an ankle injury following the match against Benfica. “It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.
Wenger also has doubts on fullback Kieran Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen. “Gibbs has a muscular [thigh] problem and Vermaelen has a slight back problem.”
The latest injury to Vermaelen could mean that Wenger steps up his efforts this week in the transfer market as he seeks to bring in another central defender. We miss Vermaelen for large parts last season and that affected our team. We can not afford for the same to happen this time round.
Wenger has been keeping an eye on Bolton’s Gary Cahill and he is the fans choice to join Arsenal. The £17million release clause in Cahill’s contract seems to be the biggest stumbling block in Arsenal signing him especially since he only has one year left on his contract. Hopefully Wenger can reach an agreement with Bolton this week for them to lower the price.

i think the latest minor injury to vermaelen and van persie is good, so wenger will not be too stingy to spend money on new signing for central defence and striker. Hope both of them get well soon.

the injuries may force the tight-wad’s hand. It is amazing to think we all knew this was on the cards but the supremo, mr academic couldnt see it happening…AGAIN!!!!
But it wont be easy…wenger will insist on a cut-price deal for anyone…his tactics are always to wait till the very end of the window for what he believes is the best price. I dont know why he does that as he always seems to pay the price in the end anyway…just means if we get someone its a bit late to integrate them.
We lack depth in the team. Arsene should respond by signing Per Mertasacker, Scott Dann or Vertongen and a Super Quality Striker in the mould of Higuan or Falcao and loads of Squad players.

We need TWO central defenders. This will enable Vermaelen to move out wide to the left when Gibbs is down the “Members Only” club with his latest injuries. This also allows Koscielny to cover for Song, particularly when the African Nations Cup starts or when Song is injured. Jenkinson can play right across the defence and as DM, but as yet he’s unproven.
Not only centre back we need another leftback too.with Gibbs is lack of physical and an injury prone.
