This may not be the big news that many fans had been expecting! Many of us are hoping that Arsenal sign someone like Scott Dann, Gary Cahill or Chris Samba, but that is not the case. Arsenal have however concluded a deal with Kyle Bartley that will see the 20-year-old defender sign a new contract keeping him at Arsenal.
Bartley is definitely one for the future and we have already seen how good he can be when he played in a Champions League match against Olympiacos in December 2009. The young defender spent the 2010/11 campaign gaining first-team experience with loan spells at Sheffield United and Rangers.
There had been suggestions that Bertley would be loaned out again this coming season but that does not look like the case, especially if Wenger is not able to bring in another centre-back, we would then need all the cover we can get.
