Arsenal set to sign two players Liverpool want

Arsenal may have had a very slow summer in the transfer market thus far but things are set to pick up in the next couple of days as the Gunners get set to hijack two signings that Liverpool think they have in the bag. This just goes to show how quickly a team has to move in the transfer market or else you will miss out on your signings.

Liverpool have been dragging their feet in their search for a new left-back. They had wanted to sign Gael Clichy from us but the Frenchman decided to join Manchester City. Now Liverpool have turned their efforts back to Newcastle’s Jose Enrique who they should have signed a long time ago. But they have delayed and we are in the market now to sign Enrique as we need a replacement for Clichy.

Liverpool were thought to be disagreeing a price with Newcastle as the Toon side want £15million for the defender but there are suggestions that they could accept an £8million offer. I am sure Liverpool and Arsenal would be able to afford this fee, it would then come down to where Enrique wants to play and joining Arsenal would be the best option for him as we are in the Champions League and Liverpool are not.

The second player Liverpool have been eyeing that Arsenal look set to steal away from them too is Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing. Liverpool had a £15million bid for the England winger rejected and if Arsenal are able to get some cash from selling Nasri or Fabregas then we could bid the £20million that Villa want for the winger.

Do you think these two would be good signings for Arsenal? Not only would they be giving a boost to our squad but we would be depleting the prospects of Liverpool who are trying to break into the Top 4.
