Arsenal have not bid for Premier League defender yet

|

Arsenal are in the market for a new central defender and we have been heavily linked with Blackburn’s Chris Samba and Bolton’s Gary Cahill. For me Cahill would prove to better the better signing between the two but among all the speculation linking us with a move for the England defender, no bid has been made yet according to the Bolton Manager Owen Coyle.

“Gary has been the subject of speculation every day, probably to the point he is frustrated by it,” he said. “I have been very open. Some of the elite clubs in this country have noted their interest. But there has been nothing concrete. Until that changes, Gary is a Bolton player.”

So atleast we know what is going on with regards to that potential transfer. The £17million release fee in Chahill’s contract may be the reason why Arsenal and other clubs have not made a serious offer for him; it seems a bit too much to pay for him.

    Way too much. Perhaps 13million

the fortunes of our club could all turn on one quality experienced central defender. Quibbling over 5 million is fair enough if you have the luxury of a more than adequate defensive unit. We have a very mediocre set of defenders(aside from vermaelen)which are not going to be good enough in the big matches and are even suspect to ordinary teams playing ordinary basic offensive tactics. Cahill is probably overpriced, but wahat is the price on another trophyless season and falling out of the top four????…a lot more than a few million.Wenger needs to be bold and just pay the money to secure the chance of a really good season. It is panning out like last season, i have no confidence in wenger.
