I remember in 2009/10, Arsenal were being heavily linked with Yoann Gourcuff from Lyon. Gourcuff was being dubbed the new Zidane by many people in the footballing would. I watched some of has games whilst he was still at Bordeaux and he was impressive. He then went to the World Cup in South Africa and had a disaster of a tournament like the rest of the French team. A lot of eyes were on him in South Africa and he disappointed and thus he stock value fell considerably.

But last season he left Bordeaux to join Lyon and it was at that time that I thought Wenger would gamble on his fellow Frenchman and get him to join Arsenal rather than move to Lyon.

With Nasi and Fabregas potentially leaving Arsenal this summer we are going to need a new play-maker and someone like Gourcuff would have been perfect to sign now. The fact that he only joined Lyon recently means it would be hard to prize him away from the club but money talks if Wenger really wants this man.
