Mikel Arteta’s agent Inaki Ibanez has confirmed that his client has signed a one-year contract extension with Arsenal which will keep him with the club until the end of the 2015-16 season.
Ibanez talking to footmercato.net said: “Mikel is no longer free next June, because he now has an extra year on his contract.”
An exit out of The Emirates seemed highly possible for Arteta earlier in the season, but with the lack of defensive midfielders as strong as ever, Wenger has decided it’s best to keep the Spaniard around.
Mikel will be 34-years-old when his current contract expires. He signed from Everton in 2011 and has made 100 Premier League appearances for the club.
