Arsenal have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona right-back Dani Alves.

The Red Devils have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 31-year-old – whose contract expires in the summer – in recent weeks.

However, we are also believed to be keen on capturing the soon-to-be Bosman, according to the Sunday Times.

The report stops short of stating whether or not the prospective move might happen in January or when the Brazilian’s contract expires.

The Gooner does not expect this move to happen for two reasons:

a) Alves, at 31, will be looking for mega wages and a lengthy contract as he enters the final years of his career. And Wenger has only just signed Mathieu Debuchy, so it is unlikely that we are in the market for a first-choice right-back.

b) It would kill Carl Jenkinson once his loan spell at West Ham ends.
