Arsenal will need to cough up £40 million if we want to sign Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes, his agent has confirmed.

The 17-year-old winger has signed a contract extension until 2019 in a new deal that includes an eye-watering £40m buyout clause.

His agent Paulo Rodrigues confirmed the news in an interview with Calciomercato on Friday, and claims that his client can develop into the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Guedes has a contract until 2019 and a release clause of 50 million euros,” Rodrigues said.

“Several clubs want the player, but no one is willing to meet Benfica’s demands and they don’t want to sell him. His dream is to succeed with Benfica, I think he can become stronger than Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Guedes had found himself linked with a January move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, while Bayern Munich were also said to be interested after reportedly earmarking the youngster as Franck Ribery’s long-term replacement at the Allianz Arena.
