Carl Jenkinson’s future has been the topic of much speculation over the past few days following the arrival of Calum Chambers at Arsenal.

His situation appears to be nearing a conclusion as West Ham co-chairman David Gold had cryptically revealed via Twitter that the club are close to completing a one-year loan deal, believed to be for the Arsenal right-back.

Gold posted, “Closing in on a new one year loan signing. dg”.

Since his dream move to Arsenal back in 2011, Jenkinson has made 53 appearances for the club, but has had to play second fiddle to Bacary Sagna throughout the three years.

With the arrival of both Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers, Jenkinson appears to have been pushed further down the pecking order, and Arsene Wenger is keen for him to get a full season of football under his belt before returning to the Emirates.

Due to his lifelong support of Arsenal, Jenkinson has been well-received by near enough every Gooner since his arrival at the club. He has deputised well for Sagna over the past three years, but is in need of regular playing time to fill the potential that Wenger sees in him.

Let’s just hope that Big Sam’s uncertain future with the Hammers doesn’t hinder Jenkinson’s playing time at the club.
